Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teacher Appointments.

John Perry

Question:

921 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science the name and addresses of secondary schools in counties Sligo, Leitrim and south Donegal that have temporary or full-time positions available from 1 January 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2004/98]

The appointment of teachers in second level schools is a matter in the first instance for the authorities of the schools concerned.

Teacher appointments are normally made with effect from the beginning of the school year. While positions do arise during the course of a school year for various reasons, it is not possible to indicate where such positions might arise.

The authorities of second level schools are currently being notified of their initial teacher allocations for the 1998-99 school year. It will not be possible for them to indicate that teaching posts are available until the redeployment process has been completed and applications for increased allocations have been decided upon.

In the meantime, I will arrange for a list of the second level schools in Counties Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal to be forwarded to the Deputy.
