Vol. 486 No. 1

Written Answers. - Capital Gains Tax.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

111 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Finance the estimated cost in a full year to the Exchequer of the reduction in capital gains tax from 40 per cent to 20 per cent applying to the disposal of a second or more house property owned by individuals; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1911/98]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that statistics are not available which would enable the information requested by the Deputy to be provided. Information on the capital gains tax arising from the disposal of second or more house property owned by individuals could not be obtained without undertaking an inquiry which could be carried out only at a disproportionate cost.
