Adjournment Debate Matters.

The following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 were received by the Ceann Comhairle: (1) Deputy Dukes — the threatened closure of the Borden plant in Athy, County Kildare; (2) Deputy McGinley — an ráiteas ó RMT go bhfuil céad tríocha oibrí ag cailleadh a bpost ar an Eastát Tionscail i nGaoth Dobhair; (3) Deputy Lawlor — the level of financial and other assistance that the Government may be in a position to provide towards securing the safety of the reactor at Chernobyl in the Ukraine; (4) Deputy Sargent — the need to outline the procedures being followed in relation to the use of patients at St. Ita's Hospital for experimentation; (5) Deputy Broughan — the need to end the C45 system of tax collection for certain trades in the construction industry given the serious allegations of tax evasion and other abuses in that industry; (6) Deputy Hayes — the need to establish a commission on the status of men and that an inquiry be commissioned to address the problems men face in society; (7) Deputy Wall — the need to set up a task force to secure new industry for the south Kildare region in light of recent closures and the possible closure of Borden Limited. (8) Deputy Jim Higgins — the circumstances surrounding the release by Galway District Court yesterday of a person who had previous convictions, the subsequent use of a stolen car in an accident involving the death of an innocent driver and the major mobilisation of gardaí in order to effect this arrest; (9) Deputy De Rossa — the need for the inclusion of the Irish School of Ecumenics as an approved third level institution for the purposes of the higher education grants scheme; (10) Deputy Michael Kitt — the need to establish when a decision will be made by the Competition Authority on the proposed investment by Coillte Teoranta in Balcas Limited, Enniskillen; (11) Deputy Neville — the circumstances giving rise to the non prosecution in the courts of a case involving a charge of dangerous driving causing the death of a person from Knocklong, County Limerick, outside Tipperary town; (12) Deputy Rabbitte — the need to secure a settlement on the current dispute at Ryanair, especially in view of the company's refusal to accept an offer to attend at the Labour Court; (13) Deputy Gormley — the Esat Digifone agreement with the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform to erect mobile phone antennae at Garda stations and the call by the Garda Representative Association for an inquiry into this matter.

The matters raised by Deputies Wall, Rabbitte, McGinley and Gormley have been selected for discussion.
