Vol. 486 No. 3

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

189 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the current position on the applications for a relief road from the Dundalk road to the Ardee road at Carrickmacross, County Monaghan; if he will provide funding for this; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2410/98]

Monaghan County Council has submitted six proposals totalling £1,550,000 to my Department for funding in 1998 under the EU co-financed scheme of grants. These applications include one for the construction of a link road between the N2 and the R178 at Carrickmacross.

This application, together with all other applications under the EU co-financed scheme, are currently under consideration in my Department. Decisions in relation to the selection of projects will depend on their compliance with EU eligibility criteria, the need to prioritise projects, competing demands from other local authorities and the funds available for the scheme in 1998.

I intend to announce grant allocations, including EU co-financed specific grants, to individual local authorities shortly.
