Vol. 486 No. 3

Written Answers. - Recycled Products.

Question:

192 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if it is a policy objective of the Government to increase the amount of recycled paper used throughout the entire public service; if he would outline the directives, if any, issued by his Department to other Departments and agencies of the State to support the practice of using recycled paper; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2374/98]

The Green Government Guide published in August 1996 aims to promote the increased use of recycled paper in Government offices and, by extension, in the wider public service.

All Government Departments have been encouraged, in implementing the guidelines, to examine their paper usage, to consider means, including use of e-mail, to reduce paper usage, and to introduce and increase the proportion of recycled paper used. While the proportion of recycled paper used in Government Departments varies, my Department implements a policy of using recycled paper only.
