Vol. 486 No. 3

Written Answers. - Local Government Funding.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

57 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government how it is intended to distribute the local government fund to councils in a manner which equalises differences in spending needs and revenue capacity according to his proposals for local government funding, announced on 12 January 1998; if, in regard to the decision, all State expenditure on non-national roads will be financed from motor tax; if this includes both capital and current expenditure; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2460/98]

In relation to the distribution of the funds available in 1999, I refer the Deputy to my reply to Priority Question No. 50 on today's Order Paper.

With regard to the State funding of non-national roads, I intend that all such expenditure will be financed from motor tax.
