Vol. 486 No. 3

Written Answers. - Natural Gas Grid.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

114 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the plans, if any, she has for extending a supply of natural gas to Dungarvan and Tramore in County Waterford; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [2559/98]

Bord Gáis Éireann has informed me that projects to supply natural gas to Dungarvan and Tramore, County Waterford, have been examined to assess their economic viability. Initial market surveys have been completed and meetings between local representatives and Bord Gáis officials have been held in respect of both towns.

I am informed that the potential gas loads identified from these surveys are insufficient to meet the required economic criteria. However, the question of supply of natural gas to these areas will be further assessed by Bord Gáis Éireann in the near future.
