Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Jim Higgins

Question:

77 Mr. Higgins (Mayo): asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason for the non payment of headage grants to a person (details supplied) in County Mayo in view of the fact that everything is in order and the cards for the animals were stamped following an inspection by an official of the Department of Agriculture and Food who verified this. [2770/98]

The person named submitted an application under the 1997 cattle headage scheme on the 30 May 1997 in respect of 41 animals including 15 beef cows. At an inspection on the 23 July 1997, the inspecting officer was not satisfied that three of the beef cows had ever calved and accordingly the person named was requested to provide veterinary evidence to support his claim that the animals were in fact cows. This veterinary evidence is still awaited and the application cannot be processed further until such time as it is received by my Department.
