*Funding of a number of services in the southern and mid-western regions transferred to the respective health boards in 1998. This is reflected in the 1998 column.
The 1996 and 1997 figures above include funding for new service developments and other adjustments made during those years. The 1998 figures represent the original allocations to the agencies and do not take account of the additional funding provided for developments in 1998.

Question:

205 Ms Hanafin asked the Minister for Health and Children the total capital expenditure allocated to psychiatric hospitals excluding psychiatric units in general hospitals or services in the community for the decades 1960 to 1969, 1970 to 1979, 1980 to 1989 and 1990 to 1998. [3071/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 204 and 205 together.

The information requested by the Deputy in relation to capital expenditure on psychiatric hospitals and mental handicap services provided by voluntary agencies in the past four decades is not readily available in my Department, and the question of assembling it is currently being examined. I will get in touch with the Deputy when the results of the Department's investigation becomes available.
