Vol. 486 No. 6

Written Answers. - Misuse of Drugs.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

59 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the measures, if any, he will take to combat drug dealing and drug cultivation in the Killarney National Park at Muckross; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3184/98]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the divisional drug unit in Kerry continually monitors Killarney National Park and Muckross for possible illegal activities.

I am also advised by the Garda authorities that there have been a number of searches carried out at Muckross under the Misuse of Drugs Act, 1977-84 involving divisional search teams and the Garda dog unit but, to date, no evidence has been obtained to warrant the prosecution of any person for an offence under the Misuse of Drugs Acts, 1977-84 I recently met some residents of Muckross and I undertook to request a review of the situation.
