Brian O'Shea

Question:

37 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the representations, if any, he has received from the consortium attempting to bring Wimbledon Football Club to Dublin on a permanent basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3316/98]

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

64 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation his views on the possible implications for Irish soccer of the proposal to relocate a British team, Wimbledon FC, in Dublin; if, following his recent meeting with representatives of Wimbledon, he has also sought the views of the FAI; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3285/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 37 and 64 together.

The question of the relocation of Wimbledon Football Club to Dublin is a matter for the football authorities and organisations involved.

At their request, last year I met separately with representatives of the club and the Football Association of Ireland who wished to inform me of their respective positions on the issue. I explained to both groups that I did not have any functions in the matter.
