Vol. 487 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tour De France.

Michael Ferris

Question:

48 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he intends to have consultations with the Department of the Environment and Local Government regarding the needs of local authorities involved on the route of the Tour de France; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3312/98]

Under the terms of the contract governing the holding of the opening stages of the 1998 Tour de France in Ireland, L'Evenement Limited, the local organisers of the tour, are responsible, inter alia, for relations with the communities visited by the tour. I understand that regular meetings take place with officials from the relevant local authorities to discuss various technical issues relating to the organisation of the tour.
