82 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the numbers employed in the greyhound industry, horse racing industry, part and full time for the last available year. [3478/98]

There are no official statistics in respect of the numbers employed in the horseracing and greyhound industries. However, the Irish Horseracing Authority and Bord na gCon have supplied the following estimates:

Horseracing Industry

Full-time and part-time:

25,000

Full-time equivalent:

11,000

Greyhound Industry:

Employed directly by the industry:

1,500

Deriving income from the industry:

8,500
