Vol. 487 No. 3

Written Answers. - Commemorative Events.

Michael Ring

Question:

162 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if funding can be made available immediately for the provision of a millennium park in Murrisk, Westport, County Mayo. [3802/98]

The Office of Public Works cofunded the provision of the National Famine Memorial at Murrisk, with the Taoiseach's Department. A proposal regarding a millennium park was prepared by Office of Public Works in the context of its involvement in the memorial project and with a view to demonstrating how such a memorial could be enhanced by placing it in a sensitive and appropriate setting. The provision of such assistance, by Office of Public Works, did not signify that it was in a position to contribute financially to the project, should it proceed. The resources of the Department of the Taoiseach's Famine Commemoration Committee and those of Office of Public Works, in relation to the Murrisk Memorial, have been fully expended.
