Vol. 487 No. 3

Issue of Writ: Dublin North By-election.

I move:

That the Ceann Comhairle direct the Clerk of the Dáil to issue his Writ for the election of a Member to fill the vacancy which has occurred in the membership of the present Dáil consequent on the resignation of Deputy Ray Burke, a Member for the Constituency of Dublin North.

When I raised a question on the Order of Business about the date on which the elections will be held, you indicated that the matter could be dealt with when the motions were moved. Will the Taoiseach indicate the date the elections will be held?

I said the question could not be taken before the motions were moved.

The motions have been moved.

What is the date?

When will the date of the elections be known?

That is a matter for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government.

Will the Taoiseach or the Minister for the Environment and Local Government say when the date for the elections will be known?

An order will be made by the Minister for the Environment and Local Government in due course.

Is the Government so scared that it will not set a date?
