248 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands if improvement works at Kells Priory, County Kilkenny are included in the Operational Programme for Heritage, 1994-1999; when this decision was made; the amount of finance allocated to the project; and the amount of work completed in 1998. [4053/98]
The position is that improvement works at Kells Priory, County Kilkenny, are not included in the projects to be funded under the Operational Programme for Tourism 1994-99.
However, I can inform the Deputy that I am sympathetically disposed to carrying out some conservation works on this national monument, to be funded from Exchequer sources at my disposal, on a phased basis over a number of years. I would hope that these works could commence sometime in 1999.
