Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Seán Power

Question:

298 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Education and Science the position in relation to the proposed extension of Athgarvan national school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3839/98]

The management of Athgarvan national school has applied to the planning and building unit of my Department for an extension. The long-term accommodation needs for the school are currently being examined by the planning section and my Department will be in a position to respond to the school management shortly.

John Bruton

Question:

299 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the revised schedule of overall accommodation for the new community school in Trim, County Meath, does not include the provision of a large computer room or computer equipment to cater for 825 students; and if he will ensure that the proper computer facilities are included as a matter of urgency into the school's schedule of accommodation. [3840/98]

Provision is made for computer studies at the new community school for Trim under the heading "commerce/business machines room" (82 square metres of classroom space).

The schedule of accommodation relates only to the number, type and dimensions of the classrooms and has no bearing on the provision of equipment. The appropriate equipment for Trim community school will be provided automatically as part of the standard procurement operation immediately prior to the completion of construction.
