Question:

310 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of full time students in third level education enrolled for the academic year 1997-98; the estimated number of students who will be enrolled for similar third level education for the year 2010-11; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3912/98]

The statistical information in relation to full-time student enrolments for the 1997-98 academic year is not yet available.

The first review of the steering committee on the future development of higher education report is currently being carried out by a study group established under the chairmanship of Dr. Donal de Buitléir. The study group's remit is to advise on the appropriate level of provision of education and training places for school leavers and others. This will include projections for the year 2010-11. I understand that the study group's report will be available in the near future, at which stage I will consider its findings.
