Vol. 487 No. 3

Written Answers. - Marine Accidents.

Michael Ring

Question:

49 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the reason for the delay in publishing the promised report on the sinking of the fishing boat F.V. Jenalisa, off Brownstown Head, County Waterford, on 4 February 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3927/98]

As the Deputy may be aware, a report of the investigation into the sinking of the F.V. Jenalisa has been completed by the Marine Survey Office of my Department and is currently with the Attorney General's Office for legal vetting. Officials from my Department have been in recent consultation with that office with a view to clarifying a number of complex legal issues which have arisen in relation to the publication of the report. I have directed that every effort now be made to finalise these matters so as to ensure that publication is not delayed any more than is absolutely necessary. I assure the Deputy that it remains my intention to have this report published as soon as possible.
