Vol. 487 No. 4

Written Answers. - Bank Charges.

David Stanton

Question:

65 Mr. Stanton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the Government's policy in relation to bank charges with regard to foreign currency exchange, in view of the advent of EMU and in relation to consumer affairs; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [4177/98]

The Director of Consumer Affairs has responsibility in relation to bank charges under section 149 of the Consumer Credit Act, 1995. The director informs me that he has had preliminary discussions with the financial services industry on this matter. No applications for increases in charges have been received so far.
