Vol. 487 No. 5

Written Answers - Courts Accommodation.

Michael Creed

Question:

128 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he has received a request from a local authority for courthouse improvements (details supplied); if so, if the plans submitted are to the satisfaction of the Department; and if he will make funding available for this project in 1998. [4461/98]

My Department requested the local authority concerned to draw up plans for the refurbishment of the courthouse referred to in the question. A revised set of plans has recently been received from the local authority and are being examined in my Department at present.

The Deputy will appreciate that it is not possible at this stage to provide a timescale for the work given the nature of the planning, consultation and tendering processes. He may be assured, however, that I am committed to providing modern court facilities in the area in question as quickly as possible.
