Vol. 488 No. 2

Written Answers. - Voluntary Organisations.

Bernard Allen

Question:

168 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 254 of 24 February 1998, he will compile the list of voluntary organisations in the Cork city area which received payments in 1997; and if he will provide them by way of a Dáil response. [5972/98]

I indicated in my previous reply that a list of all grants made in 1997 to community and voluntary organisations by the Department was being compiled. The list has now been submitted to the Dáil Library for the information of Members. The list provides a breakdown of grants on a regional basis including the southern region.

My Department makes grants to a large number of community and voluntary groups each year. In 1997 some 1,921 individual grants were made. In view of this large number of individual grants, it has been the practice for a number of years to provide this comprehensive list on an annual basis, by region only and I intend to continue this practice.
