Vol. 488 No. 2

Written Answers. - Honorary Consul Appointments.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

103 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs when his Department will confirm the appointment of an honorary consul (details supplied) to Ireland; and the length of time the assent normally takes. [5840/98]

No application has been received from the relevant Embassy for the appointment of the person as Honorary Consul to Ireland whose details are supplied by the Deputy.

The length of the procedure for the appointment of an Honorary Consul varies from case to case as it involves the authorities of both countries. The assent to an appointment following consultation with the relevant authorities here is usually given within six weeks by this Department.
