79 Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the status of proposals to transfer the operation of the social welfare rental and mortgage subsidy scheme from health boards to local authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6044/98]

This proposal arose in the context of the previous Government's policy agreement, following which an inter-departmental committee was established to consider the issues involved. It is hoped to conclude the work of the committee in the near future.
