Vol. 488 No. 3

Written Answers - Housing Grants.

Ben Briscoe

Question:

84 Mr. Briscoe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the grants, if any, available from his Department, local authorities or bodies under his aegis to persons who purchase a house without a bathroom or running water and the value of these grants. [6038/98]

Grants of up to £1,600 are available, through the local authorities, for the upgrading or the provision of a new water supply to houses where the existing supply is seriously deficient and an alternative public or group scheme supply is not readily available. In addition, there is a range of targeted schemes currently available through the local authorities and health boards to assist necessary house improvement works in appropriate cases, including the provision or improvement of sanitary facilities. This range includes the scheme of improvement works in lieu of local authority housing and the Task Force on Special Housing Aid for the Elderly.
