Vol. 488 No. 4

Written Answers - Livestock Marts.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

85 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the requirements of regulations, if any, in force, governing the cleansing of animal sales marts or yards. [6132/98]

The Livestock Marts Regulations, 1968 (S. I. No. 251 of 1968) require marts to provide such cleansing and disinfecting equipment and such a supply of water as will enable the mart to be thoroughly cleansed and disinfected after every sale. The regulations also require the provision of such drainage facilities to remove hygienically from the mart all waste matter and effluent.
