Vol. 488 No. 4

Written Answers - Hare Coursing.

Tony Gregory

Question:

96 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the number of hares killed or injured at coursing meetings since 1 January 1998. [6159/98]

The number of hares reported killed at coursing meetings from 1 January 1988 to the end of the 1997-8 coursing season was two.

In that period no hare was put down as a result of injuries sustained during coursing. While no further information is available on injuries to hares it is understood from reports that five hares were "struck" and nine "pinned" at enclosed coursing meetings in that period.
