Gerry Reynolds

Question:

55 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the supports, if any, provided to Coillte Teoranta since its formation to 1997 by the Government through loans, subventions grants and any other scheme. [6737/98]

The funding provided to Coillte Teoranta through my Department for the years in question is as follows—

—An amount of £6.5 million in Exchequer repayable advances was paid to Coillte Teoranta in 1993, as provided for under section 26 of the Forestry Act, 1988. This amount was repaid in full by the company over the years 1994-97.

— a sum of £3.855 million was paid to the company in 1989 as a grant for current expenditure under section 29 of the Forestry Act, 1988.

— The Minister for Finance has taken up shares to the value of £56 million in the company over the years 1989-93, as provided for under section 26 of the Forestry Act, 1988. In addition to the above, Coillte Teoranta was eligible for assistance under various grant schemes administered by the Department and part-funded by the EU. A full statement of the total amounts paid for the years in question will be forwarded to the Deputy within the next few days.
