Vol. 488 No. 6

Written Answers. - Angling Development.

Brendan Smith

Question:

139 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the progress, if any, made in 1998 in relation to the proposal to enhance the angling product in the Glangevlin and Dowra areas of County Cavan of the upper Shannon region under the angling measures of the Tourism Operational Programme; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there is an urgent need to make investment to enhance the tourism infrastructure of that area; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that these proposals have been under consideration for a long time; if he will ensure that applications are progressed as quickly as possible; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6884/98]

I am advised by the Central Fisheries Board, which administers the tourism angling measure, TAM, that no specific application for grant-aid has been received for tourism angling development projects in the area concerned. A biological survey of the Dowra Lakes to assess their coarse fishing potential has been proposed and will be considered in the context of future funding decisions under the measure.
