Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Hospital Developments.

Ulick Burke

Question:

234 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans, if any, he has in conjunction with and without the Western Health Board for the development and expansion of the Bon Secours Hospital, The Grove, Tuam, County Galway which is a vital service to the local community; his views on its viability and survival; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7108/98]

I have been advised by the Western Health Board that there have been preliminary talks with the authorities of the Bon Secours Hospital regarding possible future options for use of the Bon Secours by the board. These discussions are continuing and representatives of the hospital will shortly be meeting the chief executive officer and other officials of the board to explore options further. The Deputy will appreciate, therefore, that I am not in a position at this stage to indicate what the outcome of these discussions will be.
