Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Drug-Related Deaths.

John Gormley

Question:

261 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will give details on the two deaths reported from cannabis usage in 1994 and 1995; if other drugs were in use; if so, the quantities used; the recorded causes of death; and where inquests or autopsies were carried out. [7491/98]

A reply to a Parliamentary Question on 11 February 1998 indicated there was one reported death from cannabis usage in 1994 and one registered death from cannabis usage in 1995. Because there is only one death in each year I am concerned that the normal levels of confidentiality apply. I am having consultations on the extent of the information I can provide to the Deputy and I will be in contact with him in this regard.
