Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Child Abuse Inquiry.

Liz McManus

Question:

36 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation when he expects to receive the final report of the investigation being undertaken by a person (details supplied) into allegations of sexual abuse of young swimmers; if the report will be published in full; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7168/98]

Dr. Murphy made a progress report to me on 10 March on his independent inquiry into matters relating to child sexual abuse in swimming and indicated that he is aiming to complete his report by the end of this month. When completed, I understand he will submit his final report to me as soon as practicable after that date.

I have already indicated my intention to make public the report's findings. However, no decision on publication of the full contents of the chairman's report can be made until it is received and all the implications have been considered.
