113 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of paedophiles and other categories of sex offenders serving prison sentences and who are scheduled for release before 30 June 1998 and before 31 December 1998. [7600/98]
Records are not maintained in a fashion which would allow the precise information sought by the Deputy to be furnished in the time available. I will, however, be happy to write to the Deputy at a later date when it has been possible to compile it. It should be noted, however, that the prison authorities would not necessarily be aware as to whether the victim of a sex offence for which a prisoner is serving a sentence was a child.
