45 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of teachers who will be available at the end of the 1998-99 academic year through the demographic dividend; the way in which he intends to redeploy these teachers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7545/98]
It is anticipated that the number of teaching posts which will be available for redistribution from the demographic dividend at primary level will be approximately 190. It is not expected that there will be a demographic dividend at second level this year. No final decisions have yet been taken on the manner in which the dividend will be distributed. However, my decisions on resource allocations for the 1998-99 academic year will have particular regard to the priority areas set out in An Action Programme for the Millennium.
