Vol. 489 No. 1

Written Answers. - Computerisation Programme.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

60 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Education and Science if the National Centre for Technology in Education was established by the industry advisory group as outlined in the Schools IT 2000 programme; the composition of the industry advisory group; the work programme for 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7513/98]

As stated in Schools IT 2000 — A Policy Framework for the New Millennium, the National Centre for Technology in Education, NCTE, will establish an industry advisory group which will promote and support investment in educational information and communications technology by the ICT industry, the private sector generally and public enterprise. A director is now in place in the NCTE and four national co-ordinators have recently been appointed to the national centre. This will facilitate the early establishment of the industry advisory group. In the meantime, I and my Department have prepared a number of initiatives which will lead directly to investment by industry in schools ICT provision and support.
