Vol. 489 No. 2

Written Answers. - Student Support.

Richard Bruton

Question:

150 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will explain his views on a common system of student financial support for learners north and south of the Border as outlined in his address to the conference on North and South education co-operation in Malahide on 12 March 1998. [7729/98]

We should seek to co-ordinate the student support schemes between the two areas of the island to facilitate access, co-operation and student mobility. In this regard I recognise the challenges inherent in such co-ordination. However, the possibilities should be examined and I have asked my officials to consider the issues involved.
