Vol. 489 No. 2

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Stanton — the need to make funding available to support the construction of a new swimming pool in Cobh, County Cork; (2) Deputy Quinn — the closure of St. Anne's Secondary School, Miltown Road, Dublin; (3) Deputy Owen — the withdrawal of a training support grant to Portmarnock sports and leisure centre, despite such grant having been approved for 1997 by FÁS; (4) Deputy O'Shea — the legislative proposals of the Minister for Public Enterprise to clarify the situation regarding the licensing, temporary or permanent, of TV deflector systems; (5) Deputy Sargent — the need to alleviate the unnecessary hardship being caused to social welfare recipients by changing from a self-collection to a postal system of welfare payments, where delays of 14 to 20 days can occur between the ending of the old system and the first payment under the new system; (6) Deputy Gay Mitchell — the need to ensure that funds are made available to restore the surface of Watkins Square in Dublin 8 where the current surface is in a very bad condition.

The matters raised by Deputies O'Shea, Stanton, Sargent and Quinn have been selected for discussion.
