Vol. 489 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

126 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will approve funding for the Monasteradden sewerage scheme, County Sligo, in 1999; if his attention has been drawn to the urgent need for the scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7748/98]

A revised preliminary report for the Monasteradden sewerage scheme has been submitted to my Department but, given the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage investment programme, it has not been possible to advance this scheme under the main programme. However, I have recently provided funding to Sligo County Council which will enable it to direct extra funding for any purpose it wishes including the scheme referred to. It is a matter for the local authority to decide whether to proceed on this basis.
