Liam Aylward

Question:

104 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his Department will reconsider its decision to refuse payment under the 1997 ten month beef premium scheme in relation to 14 animals for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who sold two animals three days before the compulsory two months period in view of the fact that he was not aware of this particular stipulation governing the scheme and is being penalised on all other payments. [8327/98]

The person named applied for the following special beef premium applications: three animals under the 22 month special beef premium scheme on 9 April 1997; 14 animals under the ten month special beef premium scheme on 15 April 1997 and one animal under the ten month special beef premium scheme on 19 June 1997.

At a field inspection on 10 June 1997 it was discovered that two of the three animals applied on under the 22 month beef premium scheme on 9 April 1997 were disposed on 6 June 1997, three days before the retention period ended.

The person was consequently reduced payment on all his 1997 special beef premium applications. This case is being re-examined and I will contact the Deputy again as soon as possible.
