Vol. 489 No. 5

Written Answers. - Ryanair Dispute.

Seán Ryan

Question:

35 Mr. S. Ryan asked the Minister for Public Enterprise her views on the comments that the Ryanair dispute has been out of control; her views on whether she and the Government should act swiftly in the future to prevent such a reoccurrence in view of the closure of Dublin Airport; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8397/98]

This is a matter in the first instance for my colleague, the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

The Tánaiste has established a tribunal of inquiry under section 38(2) of the Industrial Relations Act 1990 to conduct an inquiry into this matter and furnish a report to her.

Section 38(2) of the Industrial Relations Act, 1990 provides that where the Minister is of the opinion that a trade dispute is a dispute of special importance, she may request the commission or the court or another person or body to conduct an inquiry into the dispute and to furnish a report to her on the findings.

I will await the findings of the tribunal before commenting any further on this matter.
