Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Physical Education Facilities.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

778 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide a sports hall for Coláiste Éanna, Ballyroan, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16 in view of the size of the school and the absence of proper sports and PE facilities for the pupils; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9385/98]

The proposed extension project at Coláiste Eanna, Ballyroan which was being planned included provision for a physical education hall. However, I recently announced the provision of a new second level school at Knocklyon. The planning section of my Department is currently assessing the long-term accommodation requirements at this new school. This exercise involves an impact study on Coláiste Eanna. Pending the outcome of the study, it will not be possible to progress the architectural planning of the project at the school.

The matter will be dealt with speedily in order to minimise the delay in providing the appropriate level of accommodation at Coláiste Eanna.
