Vol. 489 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. - Steering Groups.

John Bruton

Question:

3 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Taoiseach the number of steering groups on which his Department is represented. [8217/98]

The Department of the Taoiseach is represented on the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment Steering Committee for Information and Communications Technology; the strategic management initiative coordinating group; the strategic management initiative heads of office implementation group; the steering group on the review of the Naval Service and Air Corps; the strategic management initiative Garda implementation steering group; and the steering group overseeing the study on basic income.

My Department is also represented on a number of other groups relating to general management and future planning, including the strategy group on employment and unemployment; the freedom of information interdepartmental working group; the financial management system user group; the single currency officers' team working group; the working party on the national policy on libraries and information services, serviced by the Library Council; the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform working group on the illegal and harmful use of the Internet; and the recently established working group on consumer issues in banking.

That is a lot of work.
