24 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Defence the method of examination carried out by his Department in relation to audio protection gear used by the FCA to ensure that this gear is hygienically fit for use; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9315/98]

Peltor clean paper pads i.e., surgical swabs, are issued with the Peltor protection muffs used by members of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil on a pool basis. The recommended procedure is to use these disposable pads with each exchange of ear muffs.
