Vol. 489 No. 7

Written Answers. - Amphibious Training.

John Bruton

Question:

44 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Defence the number of inland waterways or water facilities in the possession of his Department and suitable for amphibious training. [9307/98]

The Department does not own any inland waterways or water facilities which are suitable for amphibious training. The Department owns a small site on the river Liffey at Islandbridge, Dublin 8, which is used by the Defence Forces Rowing Club. In addition, the Department has an arrangement with the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) under which the Defence Forces Canoeing, Rowing and Sailing Clubs may use facilities at Poulaphuca reservoir for training purposes.
