Vol. 490 No. 1

Written Answers - Grant Aid.

Thomas P. Broughan

Question:

24 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the commitments, if any, he has received regarding the long-term future from the Coca-Cola organisation that its operation in Drogheda is secure when it was agreed to grant aid the proposed plant in Ballina; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7676/98]

The decision to authorise the award of a Forbairt grant for the new Coca-Cola plant in Ballina was taken by the Government on 10 March last.

It is my understanding that the decision to locate this new plant in Ballina will not impact adversely on the company's existing Drogheda plant and that on the contrary, production at that plant is expected to increase significantly over the next few years. The combined investment by the Coca-Cola company in this country will be quite significant.
