Vol. 490 No. 2

Written Answers - National Research Support Board.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

81 Mr. McCormack asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she proposes to allocate sufficient money to the National Research Support Board for the necessary work carried out by this board; if she proposes to increase the funding in 1998 to the 1997 funding level; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9843/98]

I am very satisfied that the mechanism of the National Research Support Fund Board is working well to support an effective national system of innovation, which is our common goal. This is reflected in the fact that funding provided to the National Research Support Fund Board has increased each year since the establishment of the board in 1995. Funding figures are £4.831 million in 1995; £7.548 million in 1996 and £8.0 million in 1997. For 1998, a minimum of £8.799 million is being provided.
