Vol. 490 No. 5

Written Answers. - Quota Transfer.

Liam Aylward

Question:

153 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will revise his decision on the application by a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny to transfer suckler cow premium quota from his uncle to himself; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10752/98]

The uncle of the person named was allocated 15 suckler cow premium rights from the 1997 national reserve. Under EU regulations, farmers who receive quota from the national reserve may not sell/lease or otherwise transfer any part of their quota for a period of three years from the year of allocation.

However, the uncle has claimed that he cannot continue in farming because of ill health, but he has not submitted any medical evidence to support that claim. The matter will be re-examined if such evidence is received.
