Vol. 490 No. 6

Written Answers. - Inland Waterways.

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

12 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the policy, if any, Dúchas has in relation to planning permission applications on inland waterways. [10751/98]

Planning permission applications affecting the inland waterways for which I have responsibility are considered by Dúchas, the heritage service of my Department, having regard to the potential impact of the proposed development on the waterways, their heritage and amenity value, and to the capacity of the proposed development in enhancing the tourism potential of the waterways. Each case has to be considered on its merits. If necessary, recommendations are made to the relevant planning authority on the application and an appeal against the decision to grant permission, or any of the conditions attached to the decision, may also be made to An Bord Pleanála.
