Vol. 490 No. 7

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Liam Aylward

Question:

231 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the long delay in having work started on an extension to a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny which is with his Department for some time and approval has issued for this. [11057/98]

The project at the school to which the Deputy refers is one of a number of projects included in my Department's capital programme. The Department has endeavoured to progress the project through architectural planning as quickly as possible given available staff resources.

Architectural planning for the project is now at an advanced stage and I expect that the contract documentation will be finalised within the next few weeks. I can assure the Deputy that every effort will be made to progress the project to tender stage.

Question:

232 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if a decision has been made on the application by the board of management of a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny for grant aid towards the cost of a range of improvement works and provision of additional ancillary accommodation. [11058/98]

The manager of the school referred to by the Deputy has applied to my Department for grant assistance towards the cost of a range of improvement works and providing additional ancillary accommodation at the school.

The Department's planning section has recently received a report in the matter from the local schools inspector and this report is currently under examination.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

233 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding an application for an extension to Scoil Mhuire (details supplied), Moycullen, County Galway; and when a decision will be made on this matter. [11059/98]

An application for additional accommodation by Scoil Mhuire, Moycullen is currently being examined by the planning section of my Department. In this regard, an inspector's report has been requested and is awaited.

I expect that this examination will be completed and a decision taken in the near future.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

234 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received a request to receive a deputation from a school (details supplied) in County Meath; if he will agree to this request; if he will inform Deputy Farrelly of the date and time of this meeting; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11123/98]

No deputation has as yet been arranged in respect of the school in question.

The Department's post-primary building unit has received the feasibility study in connection with the provision of new accommodation for the school. This study, which contains a number of possible options in respect of the school, is at present being assessed by the technical staff of the Department. As soon as this assessment has been completed, it is intended to arrange a meeting with representatives of the County Meath VEC and the board of management of the school to agree the most feasible and cost effective option for the provision of the necessary accommodation.
