Vol. 490 No. 7

Written Answers. - Overseas Aid.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

101 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will outline all allocations made through his Department in overseas development aid for 1997, either directly or through aid agencies; and the projected amounts for 1998. [11214/98]

The total expenditure on official development assistance in 1997 is likely to amount to £122 million based on provisional outturn figures. The amount spent on development assistance through the development co-operation division of the Department of Foreign Affairs from the Vote for international co-operation is likely to amount to almost £90 million. Official development assistance also includes spending by other Government Departments such as expenditure by the Department of Agriculture and Food on the World Food Programme and the Food and Agriculture Organisation. Specific details on the 1997 Irish aid programme will be contained in the annual report which is being prepared for publication shortly.

The ODA budget for 1998 is £137 million, of which almost £104 million will be spent from the Vote for international co-operation. The relevant details from the international co-operation Vote for 1997 and 1998 are as follows:
